Most selective colleges require you to submit an essay or personal statement as section of your application.

Strategies for a Stellar College Application Essay
1. Write on something that’s important to you.
It can be an event, a person, a book—anything which have had an impression on the life.
2. Don’t just recount—reflect!
Anybody can come up with how they won the game that is big the summer they spent in Rome. When recalling these events, you ought to give a lot more than the play-by-play or itinerary. Describe what you learned through the experience and exactly how you were changed by it.
3. Being funny is tough.

6. Answer the question being asked.
Don’t reuse a solution to a question that is similar another application.
7. Have at least one other person edit your essay.
A teacher or college counselor is your best resource. And before you send out it well, check, check again, and then triple check to be sure your essay is without any spelling or grammar errors.
